A week of things

So its been a strangely quiet but also busy week. Here is a kinda quick run down of whats been going on.

Had my first few Calarts classes a little bit of web design and some printed portfolio work. Been good and inspiring.  Found myself drawing a lot more. Been doing more life drawing and feeling really happy at the improvement in my drawings. Not perfect but much better and I'm glad of that.

Last Friday my class took me on a Trip round and lovely city of Los Angeles.  We were given a list of different restaurants and our task was to go round and try a variety of different dishes. It was a great day with some very strange but tasty brown bread ice cream, the odd combination of chicken, waffles,  maple syrup, and a lump of butter so big I thought it was ice cream! YUK! Finished the day off with a safe Pizza from pit fire pizza.  Had the lovely Danny and Nate (1st year lighting designers) making sure i wasn't on my own  or completely lost. Nate hadn't really been round Los Angeles either and they appeared to have a very strange  father/son big brother/little brother  relationship. Nate always begging to
go to universal and Danny telling him not today maybe another day. Good times.

So I spent the weekend at my friend Raylin and to be honest there is not really that much to tell. A a lovely night of white Russians and girly chat. During the day I went a bought a fabulous life drawing book  and as I have said already its really helping me. Went to wonderful L.a cafe a 24th cafe with great croissant the size of my head really tasty coffee.

One of main reason for staying in L.a so long was to return my ipod touch which i was given from Christmas. It stopped charging which was driving me crazy. A new one was given to me without complaint but as i was boarding the 2nd last train home my new one touch screen sensor stopped working and I made a mad dash to apple store to do another switch. I had to pay $35 dollars to get back in time for my last train. Although more expensive than the train ticket i know i would have spent so much more money on another visit to L.A.!!

Since I got back on Monday i have spent my time drawing, relaxing and running. Looking forward to the real classes starting this Friday with life drawing but  by next Friday I have no doubt i will be begging for the weekend!

15 minute life drawing

I am rubbish at life drawing ... rubbish but  im getting better. Proud of how i have improved.  Good times

London in a day ( big delay on actually posting this was deleted by accident and then kinda rewritten)

So on Thursday i braved the Snow and headed to the train that would take me to London for my Visa Appointment on Friday. The Train was delayed by just under 2 hours. Get over it  its only a wee bit of Snow.

I had booked tickets to see the National theatres war horse and ran through the doors in Drury Lane around  7.25 stressed to the eyeballs. However once the show started i was instantly absorbed. The Acting was brilliant i found myself relating to the characters. The set was very clever and made changing the setting on the place very easy with just small props but like everyone else thats ever seen War Horse the pupperty left me in tears and speechless. So moving and well done. I will never think of puppets in the same way again. even the tanks were puppets visually stunning. You are able to forget the horse are actually puppets they are made and moved so well.

On Friday I had the stressful Visa Appointment. I  not and organised person. My dyslexia mean forms and appoints of and official nature are not my forte. After waiting for almost 3 hours in wait felt like the entrance exam for an mental Institution. I went for my interview brandishing a pile of paperwork which i didn't actually need i successfully managed to achieve my Mission. Visa achieved. First feeling of .. Maybe I am a grown up in a long time. The rest of friday was spent at my aunts house watching moves and eating take out. Saturday  was going to be a busy day.

At 5.30am Saturday morning i grudging woke up and headed off to Victoria Apollo to collect my wicked tickets. My old college friend so obsessed with wicked to the point where on friday night she camped out in sub zero temperatures so should could get front row tickets to the show. I point blanked refused. The cue for day tickets actually had middle aged woman fighting for tickets. It was insane. At 7am i turned up with my mcdonalds breakfast and prepared for my surprisingly fast 3 hours wait. My friend headed home for a shower and a freshin up and i decided it was time to hit the V & A.

So after umming and ahhing if or not i should pay the money to head into the ballet du ruse exhibition I payed the fee and got completely inspired. The above picture was  a back drop for the ballet the firebird and the exhibition held old black & white pictures of them painting it & the old references all gridded up.

The above picture is a backdrop Picasso was apart of in painting for the same company.
Absolutely incredible.

Post deleted by accident form this point----

A day with a spark.

I love it when you have one of those days and the world seem to be coming together. Today brought another portfolio class but this time web based. Looking through my work always reminds me of the progression I have made and the things i will be able to do in the future. Cant wait for next weeks class where with my fully functioning domain name I will create my wonderful web portfolio.  Its got me totally geared up to get started on my proper classes in 1 weeks time.

Tomorrow is a class on getting to now people and discovering the different  food and cultures available in L.A. Going to be riding the metro line through the red and gold lines stoping and hidden gem food stops on the way. God its a hard life. Saying that tho 1 weeks time and its going to get Crazy!!

So feeling inspired but with no Calarts projects to do i decided to do some more work on my RSAMD trompe l'oeil  project and to be 100% at the moment im very proud of the progression im making.

Still got a lot to do but well on the way to completing the first pice out for 3 for my project.

So basically the world is good. I feel sparky and passionate about what I do. Really missing my little scenic bubble. Miss all the girls a lot scenic and AA2. Its only been 2 weeks!!!

Im taking so many subject because i really couldn't pick. I opted to do a singing class  as well just as something different. Cant wait to see what all the classes will in tale.

As the work loads fairly small just now i decided to do some more of my rsamd reserch project. I opted for haveing a wee bit of fun with watercolour pencils, paint and sketchbook pro to create 3 similar tromp l'oei  stone effect. Pictures to follow.

Today I had my first class. I opted to take 2 sessions of printed portfolio class and I have to say wow. Im so inspired and excited to start creating my printed portfolio. Im cant wait to start gathering new images of my work.

The software we were using was a an offshoot adobe photoshop designed specifically for portfolio creation purposes. In 2 hours we learned about text, printing techniques, lay out, gridding. Cant wait for the 2nd class. Tomorrow I will start the day with 1 of 2  web portfolio classes.
