Busy days

So its been a while since i last posted,  busy busy and all that. So i thought i would have another wee photo dump and explain as i go...

These pictures are from a my 3D sculptor class. The class is designed to get students of all the technical departments working together as well as teaching them how to use a variety of different mediums to create art. This is our installation called Oops.

Monday morning is Light Lab. It all about design , the effects of light on colours/fabrics different surfaces. It lighting a lighting design class. We learn about rigging and the different types of lights but it is also focused on different techniques like gobo and bounces.

Drawing class is basically exercise taking straight from drawing on the right side of the brain but at the time it means i have to practice the techniques. I have to say the homework ( which i was dreading) is so helpful.  It forces me to  practices these techniques over and over and i can see a clear improvement in my work Including my life drawing. I sure you will be able to tell which drawing are the later ones. Still not perfect but a better.

 .
The drawing on the centre above I'm really proud off. The drawing above that was done the week before and i feel like in my later drawing I'm getting a much better feel for shadow and perspective. Although the week before i had been focusing more on fabric with some success i feel the fabric is not a good as the previous week the body, scale and perspective are miles ahead of any life drawing i had ever done before. Now i have to work on faces and then pulling it all together.
Scenic Arts classes here have not been as good as they could have been they are more of a beginners classes and at the moment I feel I am learning different methods but not progressing as quickly as i could. I have spoken to my mentor tho and he has agreed to put me into do production work with the master students. So feeling much better in regards to that.  Being here as improved my confidence  because its made me aware of what i know and also given me a huge list of thing i want to do before I leave the RSAMD.  Really keen to start building up my Portfolio. Getting loads of ideals and  feeling really focused on where i want to go and how i am going to get there.
We have been working a lot on techniques something i first touched on in  Summer School experience before i stated at the RSAMD.

We have also been trying marbling and wood techniques something which I have also done before. However we are doing it using different methods. Many different ways to skin i cat i guess.

In the workshop we have been learning about flats. After Panto i requested to go back to the workshop (rsamd) before going on exchange and I'm so glad i did. In that time i did a little bit of work on broadway flats so i was able to understand alto of the the maths much better than most even tho it was in inchs.

Homework for next Thursday build 2 mini flats one Hollywood and one Broadway. Such a good Task. Even tho our final project brief is even better ... cant wait to show you guys!

And here is the funs stuff.....

Classes, San Fran and my love for the Ug

So the weekend brought a wonderful trip to San Fran. The 5 hours drive started at 10 pm so we didn't get to Dakotas  till late. The next day was spent relaxing in red wood city and in evening we wandered around the bay pier. It is such a fabulous  city with so much to see.

The next day while dakota and chris where shooting a promo clip to raise money for dakotas up coming music video myslef alex poise and Sandy (alexes mum) headed into San Fran. We were treated to bagels and mothered  to piceses it was loveley.  After brekfast we headed to the art exbition of artist  Isabelle de borchgrave. Her exbiton pulp fashion shows astounding dresses all made out of paper many inspired by renisance paintings.  Below are 2 pieces that where in the gallery as well as a wee photo dump of our day.

So of course after a 9 am start monday was a tired day, i decided it was best to chill out and paint. After much deliberation i decided i could get to birds with one stone and attempt another piece for my rsamd project due on thursday. Out come the water colours. Not painted with water colours in years and i loved it. Still a good we bit to go but im happy.

Last but not least my love for .. Ug.

I make no secret of my love for the ugly things in life.  Christmas was filled with ugly gifts designed to keep every outfit horrifically accessorised. I wear my pink sparkly bag with pride. Its my FAV even if one of my lectures and of my tutors have made comments like it should be make illegal and stamped on or it looks like soothing a las Vegas show girl would keep her tampons in. So today for $8 a bought my new FAV ugly thing.. The trousers......  enjoy!

Friday 4 February 2011

You want me to what??????

So friday is my day of drawing. I opted to do 2 drawing classes on a friday rather than one big life drawing one. So in the morning i take a technical approach to drawing. It a class on drawing techniques and projects . Its basically a 14 weeks version of a class taught in our drawing classes at the rsamd a few months ago.  I've  found these types of classes very useful in the past so im hoping 14 weeks of them will be life changing ( big i know!)

Life drawing well we all know how i feel about my life drawing! Weirdest life drawing class ever but really really good. Because  my life drawing class is for character animation students we were asked to do a lot of crazy exercises aimed to created cartoons, story and animation. unlike anything i have done before. Although i cringe to put these pictures up here i feel have to so in 4 months i can be like look .... look how i have changed and develop and grown as a person and artist.

Now bring on the weekend ... hello SAN FRAN!

Now lets begin with ... 1 inch, 1 foot ..... ahh whats wrong with metriC

So I am almost at the end of week one of classes. Only technical drawing and life drawing to go. Monday started with a lighting class. We spent the morning looking at pictures and the way lights where angled etc. We have been asked to recreate a photographs lighting for our homework. This exercise is very similar one which was done in my first term at the RSAMD.

Second on the list was model making and another big new list of things I need to buy. But really excited to see what we come up with. Tuesday was a quiet day starting with a 3d sculpting class. Which brought up the question, what is art? Is there a difference between art and design? Wednesday was a really good relaxing day of singing. A hobby i have not delved into in forever so it was great fun.

Thursday was the day I was really looking forward to. Scenic Art and Carpentry. Although the Scenic Art class i feel for the first 5 weeks will be nothing new to me. Scaling up on a small scale, marble effect, wood effect, distressing. Later on the we will be doing translucent painting and cartoon layout ( hopefully with spray guns) I hope  to use this class as an opportunity to gain portfolio items. Although I like the ideal of working project by project I felt as i had already covered a lot of what we would be doing back home i went to speak to my mentor and ask about being put into more production work. He told me not to worry and in a few weeks time i would be flung in full pelt to shows. So hopefully i will learn a lot more in that. Nathan one of the lighting designers took me and alex arounf the set of the up coming show wounded and i have to say the floor for the show was spectacular. Carpentry was fairly boring health and safety  but it clear to me already .. I miss metric! Im not sure how I am going to manage a scale ruler in inches!

Really nice thought today looking round my classes. I can name all the students in this room and everyone has a different major. Its really really nice! So after a lovely dinner with actors, singers, producers, stage mangers and designers, it was off to the shops to finish buying the rest of tomorrows supplies. Saturday bring the next road trip! San fran for Dakotas gig on sunday night. Good times .. anyway here is my normal photo dump :)
